Island Info

Spanish Wells is not a tourist island that offers gambling, lots of restaurants, clubs, etc.. It is an out island in the Bahamas that is a working Lobster fishing community with nice people. It is a clean safe island and a good way to get away from a fast paced life and enjoy island living. The beach in front of the house is all sand and shallow at low water where you can walk out for a block or two. The water is very warm in the summer and cooler in the winter. The wind is stronger in the winter and very light in the summer. The humidity is high in the summer and much less in the winter.

Cash is prefered on the island as credit cards are not accepted at most places.

Walking the beach, sunbathing, swimming, reading a book are all nice things to do.

Snorkeling is good but you need to either bring your own equipment which is cheaper but more hassle or buy it on the island at maybe the store or Manuel's Dive Shop (located next to beach house). I am not aware of any snorkel rentals at this time. There is no scuba rental on the island that I am aware of but there may be some at Harbour Island. Tony the care taker of the house if he has time will take you out snorkeling or fishing. Please pay for his gas and time for doing this.

Fishing is good and there are a few locals that take people out such as:
Broadshed (242) 333-4427
Scuba (242) 333-5100
Little Woody (242) 333-4433

Boat Rental is limited but try Beauregard at (242) 333-4080

Golf Cart Rental is available and at:
JJ Rental Johnny Underwood (242) 333-4575
Abner's Buggy Rental (242) 333-4414 located by the Government Ferry Dock.
Yacht Haven Marina (242) 333-4255

Island Hopping
is easy on the Bohengy which will take you to Harbour Island for the day or Nassau for an overnight. For rates and schedules contact the link  Bahamas Ferry Service

Food is available at Food Fair (aprox. 4 blocks) the island market (delivers to the house for $5) which is closed all day Sunday and is open half day on Wednesday and closes at noon. Fresh Fish and Lobster can be purchased at Ronald's Seafood.

Alcohol: There is no alcohol served on Spanish Wells. However, you can bring it on the island and consume it. It can be purchased at the liquor store (large yellow building) at Jean's bay dock on North Eleuthera. This is where the Goverment Ferry brings you across from North Eleuthera to Spanish Wells. You may want to stop there on your way to the island if desired.

Medical there is a clinic on the island and one Doctor. There is not a hospital on the island.
The phone number for the clinic is (242) 333-4064.
Dr. Bailey (242) 333-4869
